North Carolina native Hunter Foster first came to Broadway as an understudy/replacement in Les Misérables. He played Roger in the 1994 revival of Grease and Bickle in the original Broadway cast of the musical adaptation of Footloose in 1998.
Foster gained notice for his portrayal of Bobby Strong in Urinetown, the irascible musical comedy (book and lyrics: Greg Kotis; music and lyrics: Mark Hollmann) that opened on Broadway in 2001. The show won Tonys® for best book, best original score, and best direction of a musical.
Hunter Foster played Seymour in the musical adaptation of Little Shop of Horrors in 2004 and earned nominations for both the Tony Award® and the Drama Desk Award for best actor in a musical.
Foster served as a replacement for Leo Bloom in Mel Brooks’s musical, The Producers. He is also a playwright and has written for television.
Sutton Foster, the Broadway actress, is his sister.
