Jim Walton has been performing on and off Broadway since he made his debut there in 1980 in the musical revue, Perfectly Frank, dedicated to the legacy of celebrated Broadway composer and lyricist Frank Loesser. The following year, he appeared as Franklin Shepard in the short-lived Sondheim musical comedy, Merrily We Roll Along, which starred Jason Alexander.
Walton returned to Broadway in 1987 in Stardust: The Mitchell Parrish Musical, a revue featuring songs by Duke Ellington, Hoagy Charmichael, Benny Goodman, and Leroy Anderson. He later appeared in Broadway revivals of Sweeney Todd, The Music Man, and, most recently, as Harry the Horse in the 2009 revival of Frank Loesser’s Guys and Dolls.
Jim Walton has been active off-Broadway as well. In 1985, he performed in the concert cast recording of Stephen Sondheim’s Follies and in the off-Broadway production of the Kander and Ebb musical, And the World Goes ’Round.
With his brother Bob, Walton has written and performed in two off-Broadway revues, My Brother’s Keeper (1991) and Mid-Life! The Crisis Musical. Walton appeared as a replacement for Billy Lawlor in the 1980 revival of 42nd Street.
